John Abraham Biography
John Abraham is a bollywood actor born on 17th December 1972, he is a former model with the height of 6.1”. He modeled for different advertisements and companies, then he made is debut in 2003 with the movie “Jism” that earned him the Film Fare Award for best actor debut. His first commercial success was the movie “Dhoom” in 2004. This movie earned John abraham Filmfare award again for his negative role in the movie. Later he was seen in the huge critically successful movie “Water” in 2005. In 2007, again he was nominated for the best supporting role in Filmfare for his role in the film Babul.
John’s father was a Malyali and his mother was Parsi, his father is architect from Kerala. Since John’s mother was a Parsi woman, she named him “Farhan” and his father was a Christian so he named him John. John also has a younger brother and his name is Alan.
At the Bombay Scottish School, Mahim, John studied economics and earned his MBA from MET (Mumbai Educational Trust). He started his career in modeling by making his entry into the music video by a Punjabi singer Jazzy B, the song “Surma” was very popular during that time. Later he joined Time and Space Media Entertainment Promotions Ltd, a media firm, it closed due to some financial issues later.
John’s debut film was Jism in 2003, it was romantic thriller and it was a box office hit, the collection of the this movie was above an average of 13,25,00,000. After Jism he continued with the same genre and appeared in movies like Saaya, Paap, Lakeer, but none of them saw a great success.
He appeared in a negative role in the movie “Dhoom” in 2004, the film was produced by Yash Raj Films. “Dhoom” was a huge success of that year. In 2005 he appeared in the comedy movie Garam Masala with Akshay Kumar and thriller “Kaal” with Vivek Oberoi, both movies did very well at the box office. At the end of 2005 he appeared in a critically appreciated film ‘Water’, which showed the awful fate of widows in Hindu religion during 1930s. The movie was directed and written by the well-known film maker Deepa Mehta. The movie was nominated for the Academy Award in the category of best foreign language film of 2006, and also got nominated for 79th Academy awards.
In 2006, John appeared in movies like Taxi No 9211, Kabul Express, Zinda and Baabul. Among all these films Kabul Express and Taxi No 9211 were pretty successful.
John starred with Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra in “Dostana” in 2008, the movie was produced by Karan Johan, this movie did very well at the box office. His next appearance was in the much awaited movie by Yash Raj Films “New York” in 2009 and it was also a commercial hit of that year.
